Biel's carnival begins with the "Charivari" in the old town, where the "Guggen" brass bands try to surpass one another in regards to the most original lighting fixtures and lanterns. Afterwards, "Prince Carnival" is enthroned at the Burgplatz. Biel's mayor hands over the keys to the city of Biel to "Prince Carnival" for five days. A "monster concert" ends the ceremony.
