Biel’s truffle market
Since ancient times, hardly any other delicacy has stimulated the imagination of poets, philosophers and gourmets as much as truffles. The ancient Greeks believed that lightning and thunder produced the truffles. Today we know that the wrinkled or wary tuber, which grows underground, reproduces itself by spores like all fungi.
The search for the coveted black tuber has come into fashion in Switzerland in recent years. Only in the Canton of Bern, we count a three-digit number of amateur truffle hunters.
