Aare Route (Route no. 8)

  • Cycling - Aare Route
  • Cycling - Aarberg
  • Cycling - On the shores of Lake Biel

"Your muscles will barely have warmed up on the way from Berne when you come across the signs pointing the way to the Schopfbeizli. Hunger and thirst have certainly not made themselves felt yet but, intrigued by the idea of this pair of peasants-turned-innkeepers, you cannot resist taking a look. A few tables and benches: the Schopfbeizli is nothing special to look at. But there are some real delights to welcome the hungry visitor: home-made plaits, farmhouse cheese and a tasty prune cake. The Aare flows through a rustic region made up of small villages and huge forests. After Aarberg, the landscape suddenly takes on a new appearance. The valley opens up and the Aare enters the vast plain of the Great Marsh before flowing into Lake Biel."
